Notes

It is believed that Calfrey is buried in the Hardin cemetery, and that his monument was removed by a relative to be cleaned up. Reference letter of M.B. McMahan of Sept. 29, 1978 to a Miss Mary Hardin, as told to him by Sanders Hardin. The cemetery was open to cattle grazing in 1978 when M.B. McMahan and Sanders Hardin visited the cemetery; he notes the damage done by the cattle.

Book 'DAVIS - REESE and Related Families' by Flossie Henry Pickens 1963, section on The Mary Davis Hardin Family, names the four children of C. M. Hardin married Mary Davis on Feb. 13, 1840. This date appears to conflict with birth date of Catherine on Nov. 24, 1840, stated to be daughter of C.M. Hardin married first Mary McMahan. Could the marriage year of 1840 be in error, the oldest known child - James M. was born in 1843 ?

Cafrey Hardin in 1840 Sevier County Census; 100001-00001 or 1 m <5, 1 m 40-50, & 1 f 20-30. Robert believed to be son of Calfrey m Mary McMahan could be the male under 5, the female 20-30 sounds like Mary Davis. Now who was the mother of Catherine born 24 Nov 1840 ?
