Notes

John Carter was born in the Wood River Community. He was listed with his parents in the 1820 State Census of Madison County. He also moved with his parents from Madison County to Greene County, Illinois in 1820.

In 1847 John Carter was appointed as the administrator for his father's estate by the Circuit Court for Greene County, Illinois.

He and his wife Ann Spencer were listed in the 1850 Federal Census of Greene County, Illinois. There were no children in the household at that time.
