Notes

Mary Lou (Peltier) McElroy went to work when she was a child, after attending school through the sixth grade. She worked in a sewing machine factory helping earn money to feed the family. When she was a young teenager she met her husband, Theodore 'Ted' McElroy and in the words of Ricky Nelson's song it was 'Hello, Mary Lou, Goodbye heart'. Mary Lou wrote in her diary she didn't remember who proposed to whom and the first thing she knew they were married she was 15 years old and Ted was 20, almost 21. They stayed together until his death in l969.
