William Martin Ford was a member of D. B. Fisk & Company, wholesale milliners supplies. He left the Company and went in business for himself. He manufactured the first ready trimmed hats for ladies. Carson Pierrie Scott & Company were his first customers. He eloped with Letitia Stout after a prayer meeting at age of 19 and 16 respectfully.
