In 1785, he bought a large tract of land in Penn's Valley, now Centre County, from James Huston, of Philidelphia, 'Innholder,' who was probably his uncle. To this land he removed in the following year and afterwards always lived in that part of Pennsylvania. From 1780 to 1786 his name appears regularly on the East Pennsboro tax list as a freeman.
