Martha Matthews never married Joab but later claimed to have a daughter by Joab Rolen. The timing of the divorce of Joab and Mary (Keeler) Rolen may have been motivated by this event, but this is just speculation. Though we cannot prove Martha Matthew's claim, Joab claimed the child and gave it his surname.
