Moses McCarter Jr. was listed in the 1800 Federal Census of Abbeville County, South Carolina. Also from the original muster roll (War of 1812), he served in a company under command of Captain Porter in a regiment commanded by ? in the division of Tennessee Drafted Militia under Major General William Carroll in the United States from 10th day of November 1814 to 10th day of May 1815. It indicates from this muster roll that he served in the War of 1812 from Sevier County, Tennessee.

He appeared on 1825, and 1827 tax lists of Jefferson County, Tennessee.
