Notes

Joseph was severely wounded by a party of Cherokee Indians, near Sevierville, Tennessee on 18 April 1793, at the time his brother-in-law Joshua Tipton was killed. He lived in the vicinity of Sevier County, Tennessee until about 1808 when he removed to Indiana with his other brothers. He later settled in Harrison County, Indiana.
