John came from England to Watertown, Massachusetts about 1640 with his wife and four children. In 1645 or 1646 they removed to the foundation of a new settlement at Lancaster, Massachusetts. John Prescott took the oath of allegiance in 1652, but was not admitted freeman before 1669, was with his family removed shortly after the doleful day of 10 February 1676 and the town was wholly abandoned for several years so that no white man lived between the towns on the Connecticutt river and thos on the Concord. In 1682 the number of familes was not more than one-third as large as seven years before. But of these, Prescott's was one.
