Never married.

The will of John A. Mateer, 'single man without issue', written 9 June 1905, probated 22 September 1922, bequeathed all property to four nephews, sons of his brother, Andrew J. L. McTeer, namely, Ira McTeer, William Arthur McTeer, Ed McTeer and Carl McTeer, they to share equally after provision for the testator's sister Ellen McTeer so long as she remains single or for life. Executor: Andrew J. L. McTeer. Witnesses: Will A. McTeer, Andrew Gamble.
