William M. had a small farm at Ellejoy adjoining some of the other McTeer properties; his second wife moved away from Tennessee while her children were still young; so it was daughter Anna Cummins (with the help of her brother John) who took care of her father during a long and distressing illness. The members of this family were distinguished for their mathematical ability and their musical gifts; Lorena especially was a fine alto singer.

On 20 December 1902 W. M. McTeer was appointed guardian of Samuel H. McTeer, Anna C. McTeer and William L. McTeer, his own minor children and also minor heirs of Rachel C. McTeer. Moneys in this guardianship were figured at interest from 27 August 1902 and there were various disbursements to the children as they reached majority.

On 12 March 1930 Will A. McTeer was appointed Administrator of the Estate of William M. McTeer; bond was for $1500 with A. B. McTeer, Julian McTeer and Walker Johnson as sureties.
