Notes

Horace N. Mateer graduated from Princeton College in 1877 and went on to get his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1883. In 1884 he moved to Wooster, Ohio, where he was engaged in private practice and was instrumental in the founding of the town's hospital. In addition he was professor and head of the department of Biological Science at Wooster College, where he established the first pre-medical course in any American college.
