In 1805 James Dunlap purchased the original James McTeer homestead from the heirs of Samuel Mateer, and his daughter Ellen (Dunlap) Saxton was still owner of the place in 1898 when Major McTeer visited her and obtained his picture of the old stone house built in the 1760s.
In the 1850 census of Lower Allen Township the household of James Dunlap aged 75 years included Margaret Dunlap aged 50, John C. Dunlap aged 32, Margaret Dunlap aged 21, Robert D. Dunlap aged 17 and Mary A. Dunlap aged 12.
Administration on the Estate of James Dunlap of Lower Allen Township, was granted on 16 August 1859 to John C. Dunlap; bond was for $6000. Administration on the Estate of Margaret Dunlap was granted on 22 February 1882 to J. O. Saxton; bond was for $20,000 with J. M. Ralston as surety.
Buried in Silver Spring Cemetery.
