The 1850 census lists a Bayley Mateer, preacher, living in Lower Allen Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania; his houshold included his wife Mary A. and three children: Sarah J. aged 10, Albert aged 7, and James A. aged two years. Bayley's age is given as 27, and his wife's age as 25. This man was almost certainly Bailey, but with a very considerable discrepancy for his and his wife's ages.
In 1860 in Lower Allen Township, B. Mateer, laborer, aged 48 was listed with wife M. aged 47, and children S. F. (female) aged 20 and J. D. (male) aged 12.
Buried in St. Johns 'Peach Church', near Shiremanstown, Hampden Township.
