The will of James Mateer of Allen Township, written 22 May 1832, probated 11 August 1834, directed that his wearing apparel be divided equally between his sons John and Bailey, and that his copy of Henry's Commentary should go to his son William; all other personal property to be appraised and sold and real estate to be disposed of by public sale; the proceeds after payments for debts, expenses, gravestones and the like to be distributed as follows: to sons William, James and Robert, $200 each; to daughter Margaret, wife of James Dunlap, $200; to daughter Eliza, $400; of the remainder two-thirds to son John and one-third to son Bailey. Executors: son John Mateer and nephew John Mateer (of William). Witnesses: Andrew Mateer, Jesse W. Cooke. The estate was inventoried at $2000.
Buried in Silver Spring Church Cemetery.
